Mindfulness for Teens

6-Week Series

In our competitive, achievement-oriented culture, the teenage years can be a challenging time. In this 6-week course, we systematically explore the practices of mindfulness and meditation in ways that are accessible to our teen participants. These powerful practices have shown to help teenagers bring down stress levels, increase self-awareness, and help them navigate the challenges of their day-to-day lives with confidence. 

The series is designed for kids aged 13 - 19 years. The classes are interactive with meditations, group activities, discussions, and role-playing exercises. They offer a safe and supportive environment for teens to explore these practices and share what's on their hearts and minds.

Meditating

Gayathri’s meditation class gave me a place to unwind after a stressful school day. It helped me untangle my thoughts and eased me into the night. In moments of frustration or anger I used things we learned in class, like that an emotion only really lasts for a few seconds and after that, it's just thoughts you have. Knowing this gave me more perspective on the thoughts and feelings I was having.

I did the Teen Mindfulness class with Gayathri for more than 6 months, and part of the course was observing emotions and figuring out the relationship between thoughts and feelings. These topics particularly helped me explore how much faster I could become calmer if all I did was observe my emotions effectively. Adding on to the learning aspect, the class itself was very enjoyable due to the activities, and I often felt less stressed when I came out of it.
